The US Roofing Story
Our Founder
United States Roofing Corporation has been providing first-class roofing and sheet metal services throughout the Delaware Valley since its founding by Ken Farragut in 1962.
Ken Farragut was raised in a three-room shack owned by the Mississippi paper mill where his father worked. In the late 1940s, a Mississippi high school football coach noticed his size, toughness ... and bare feet. He offered Ken a pair of shoes if he would try out for the team. Ken took the coach up on his offer and he excelled on the field, earning a full scholarship to the University of Mississippi.
After captaining the 1950 Ole Miss Rebels and graduating with a Masters degree, Ken was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1951. Ken displayed continued excellence on the professional level, becoming an All-Pro center for the Eagles. As Ken says, he played "BBM" ... "Before Big Money."
Even with all his success on the field, he still had to work in the off-season. He began selling roofing and siding door to door to supplement his NFL salary. Ken loved the competitiveness of the industry and the satisfaction of providing quality service to his customers. So much so, in fact, that in the midst of an All-Pro career, he switched gears and took on yet another challenge: building a successful career and company from the ground up.
U.S. Roofing's Rapid Growth
Even while leading U.S. Roofing's growth and raising three children with his wife, Jane, Ken made time to give back to the community. He co-founded and served as president of the NFL Alumni Association. During his tenure as president, he spearheaded the association's efforts to raise money for underprivileged children.
While Ken was at the helm of U.S. Roofing, the company achieved continued growth during each consecutive year. Ken has been recognized for his work on the field, in business and in the community. In 1988 he was elected to the Ole Miss Hall of Fame. In 1992 he received the NFL Alumni Career Achievement Award. In 1999 he received the NFL Alumni’s Helping Hands Award for his work with the NFL’s Caring for Kids Program. Prior to his retirement in 1997 he was honored by the Philadelphia Roofing Contractors Association with their Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Next Generation
After growing up in the roofing business and spending countless summers on the roof, Ken’s son, David, graduated from University of Mississippi, joining Ken at USRC in 1971. Blessed with the same drive and work ethic of his father, David recognized the changes coming to the roofing industry. He embraced the new roofing technologies appearing on the market, and grew U.S. Roofing into the largest roofing and sheet metal contractor in the Delaware Valley. David has become a pillar of the national roofing market. Known for his infectious laugh and boundless energy, David has positioned U.S. Roofing at the top of the industry.
Through to Today
In 1998, Ryan Farragut became the third generation of the Farragut family to graduate from the University of Mississippi. Since high school, Ryan spent his summers in the shop or on the roof, learning the business from the front lines. Throughout his career, Ryan has served U.S. Roofing in every capacity: as a roofing crew member, an estimator, a project manager, and as vice president of operations. In the spring of 2013, David assumed the role of chairman/CEO, and Ryan was appointed as the third president of U.S. Roofing.
Today, David and the third generation of the Farragut family continue to maintain the ongoing success of United States Roofing.
